With the 67th annual Cannes Film Festival now underway, the film world has their attention focused solely on the French Riviera’s fruitful display of international cinema. Yesterday evening, the IFP, Calvin Klein Collection and euphoria Calvin Klein held a star-studded event titled Women in Film, an evening focusing on the talented women who have made an impact in film this year. Recently minted Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years A Slave) and Oscar nominees Julianne Moore (Maps to the Stars), Rooney Mara (Her) and Naomi Watts (Diana) were in attendance, being celebrated for riveting and noteworthy work in recent cinema. Our Executive Director, Joana Vicente, was joined by Women’s Creative Director of Calvin Klein Collection, Francisco Costa, to host the festivities.

“As we come together,” Vicente noted in her opening remarks, “we have the occasion to think about how we can increase the opportunities for female filmmakers …to not only get their films made but also get these films in front of audiences around the world.”

In acknowledging the four Hollywood stars being honored, Vicente continued: “Each of the women we are celebrating this evening is a dynamic, multi-talented force to be reckoned with. Each of them inspire us with their work ethic and creativity. By taking on challenging projects, they are all redefining what it means to be a woman in film today.”
