About Owning It
Owning It, a program of The Gotham Film & Media Institute, is dedicated to supporting, connecting, and empowering women and non-binary creators and entrepreneurs who break down boundaries in the media and entertainment industry.
The program consists of thought leadership, an annual summit, accountability challenges, workshops, and more. Past Owning It guests include Rebecca Hall (Passing), Alice Wu (The Half of It), and Julie Deply (Two Days in Paris, The Before Trilogy, My Zoe).
Owning It provides an inclusive environment that expands and expresses a liberated movement for women and non-binary individuals as well as those that are our champions, advocates, and allies.
Accountability Challenge: Personal Brand
Applications have closed for the Owning It Accountability Challenge: Personal Brand. Selected participants will be notified by August 28; the session will run from September 5 – September 28.
Eight women and non-binary creators will be selected for the opportunity to fine-tune the trifecta that makes up their personal brand: website, social media presence and elevator pitch.
Fellows will receive a mentor, access to workshops and expert-led meetings related to elevator pitches, website best practices, social media and a special case study with a creator who has leveraged their personal brand to get their career to the next level.
Owning It Summit
Each year, during our annual summit, Owning It brings together women and non-binary filmmakers and entrepreneurs of all levels to share their experiences and expertise, learn new skills, and meet like-minded collaborators.

Accountability Challenges
Through Owning It Accountability Challenges, we support women and non-binary creators and entrepreneurs as they complete their loglines, elevator pitches, pitch decks, and more. By providing opportunities to connect with others, hear feedback from industry leaders, and mentorship, participants walk away with the next steps needed to continue to grow their projects and careers.
Thought Leadership
Throughout the year, join Owning It for fireside chats and/or workshops with women and non-binary filmmakers and creators making an impact in their industry to hear about their experiences and gain insight into the film and media industry and how it can be applied to your own project and/or career.
