Filmmaker Magazine Reveals 25 New Faces for 2014

The wait is over! An annual summer tradition (and strong prognosticator of up-and-coming indie talent), Filmmaker Magazine unveiled the 2014 edition of “25 New Faces” this morning. Lead by Editor-in-Chief Scott Macaulay and new Managing Editor Vadim Rizov, the comprehensive list is now available online for your viewing pleasure. And for savory collectors, the summer issue, bursting at the seams with content, will be available on newsstands later this month.
A who’s who of the American independent film world, some new faces of recent past have included Eliza Hittman (It Felt Like Love), Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station), Penny Lane and Brian Frye (Our Nixon), Terence Nance (An Oversimplification of Her Beauty), David Lowery (Ain’t Them Bodies Saints), Rashaad Ernesto Green (Gun Hill Road) and many more.
This year’s list also features a mighty impressive array of talent and, we’re proud to say, some notable IFP alum. They include Jessica Dimmock & Chris LaMarca (2013 Independent Film Week), Darius Clark Monroe (2013 Documentary Labs), Dustin Guy Defa (2012 Independent Film Week) and current 2014 IFP Narrative Lab fellow, Matt Sobel (Take Me to the River).
Other rising moviemakers such as experimental filmmaker Jodie Mack, who was profiled in The New York Times last week, find themselves on the list, as does Ana Lily Amirpour, whose A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival before serving as the Opening Night film for the Film Society of Lincoln Center and MOMA’s New Directors/New Films festival this past March.
Now that we’ve whet your appetite, head on over to Filmmaker to read up on your favorites and to learn more about those who have been just slightly under your radar; we guarantee you will discover someone new. Afterward, be sure to purchase a copy of the summer issue, as you will want to keep the list handy when heading to the theater over the next few years.
