We all know it’s hard to get people to watch our work. Cold calls, query letters, festival submissions; all that just to get a small handful of people to take a look.
Well here’s an opportunity that could end up getting your work seen by quite a few people – 111 million to be exact. Doritos has launched their Sixth Annual “Crash The Super Bowl” contest, in which filmmakers submit 30-second commercial spots to compete for a chance to air during the game on Super Bowl Sunday. Submissions are now open, and it’s 100% free to apply.
And there’s also an extra twist this year. Doritos has gotten some of the funniest dudes in Hollywood to put together their own ad for the Super Bowl. If, after both ads air, the contest winner takes the top spot in USA Today’s annual Ad Meter, they’ll not only win a million dollars, but also the chance to work with some of the funniest dudes in Hollywood. If the other ad wins, Doritos will donate the million to charity, so not a bad deal either way.
Every single submission is viewable online, so you can already go check out the competition. Five finalists will be announced on January 4th, at which point the public gets to vote on the winner. If you’ve got aspirations to break into the commercial business, or have a funny idea that you think could work, go here (http://www.crashthesuperbowl.com/) to learn more and apply.
