The new Gotham Television Awards Ensemble Tribute will recognize the talented TV casts whose artistry and chemistry captivate audiences worldwide. With this tribute, The Gotham will honor Elisabeth Moss and the cast of The Handmaid’s Tale, which includes Yvonne Strahovski, Bradley Whitford, Max Minghella, Ann Dowd, O-T Fagbenle, Samira Wiley, Madeline Brewer, Amanda Brugel, Sam Jaeger, Ever Carradine, and Josh Charles, for forming one of the most compelling and enduring television ensembles of the modern era, working together across multiple seasons to bring depth and humanity to the series’ profound story.
“As we celebrate the final season of The Handmaid’s Tale, we recognize its unparalleled impact on modern television, sparking global conversations and reflections on urgent societal themes through its unflinching narrative and unforgettable performances,” said Jeffrey Sharp, Executive Director of The Gotham Film & Media Institute. “At Gotham, we champion bold, thought-provoking storytelling, and this series has set a new standard for television as both an art form and a cultural force. We are proud to honor the artistic depth and integrity of this powerful cast — led by Elisabeth Moss, in her role as Executive Producer and then director — that have truly defined the remarkable show from the beginning.”
“It’s an incredible honor to receive the inaugural Ensemble Tribute from the Gotham Film & TV Institute,” said Elisabeth Moss. “From day one, The Handmaid’s Tale has been a labor of love for all of us — a collaboration built on trust, passion, and the shared belief in the power of storytelling to reflect and challenge the world we live in. To be recognized alongside my castmates, an extraordinary group of artists who have become like family, is deeply meaningful. We’re so grateful to Gotham for celebrating the impact of this series and the ensemble that helped bring it to life.”
Adapted from the classic novel by Margaret Atwood, The Handmaid’s Tale is the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly the United States. Offred (Elisabeth Moss), one of the few fertile women known as Handmaids in the oppressive Republic of Gilead, struggles to survive as a reproductive surrogate for a powerful Commander and his resentful wife. The Handmaid’s Tale is produced by MGM Television. Season six is executive produced by Bruce Miller (series creator), Warren Littlefield, Eric Tuchman (co-showrunner), Yahlin Chang (co-showrunner), Elisabeth Moss, Steve Stark, Sheila Hockin, John Weber, Frank Siracusa, Kim Todd, Daniel Wilson and Fran Sears.
Premiering on April 26, 2017, The Handmaid’s Tale was renewed for five additional seasons, with the sixth and final season premiering on April 8, 2025, on Hulu. Its groundbreaking first season marked the first Hulu original to win a major award and the first series from a streaming service to win the Emmy® for Outstanding Drama Series. The show has since earned 15 Primetime Emmy Awards, including the Emmy® for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, awarded to Elisabeth Moss, who also won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Television Drama Series. The series itself received the Golden Globe Award for Best Drama Television Series. Seasons 1 through 6 are available to stream now on Hulu, and the franchise is set to continue with The Testaments, a spinoff series currently in production at Hulu.
It was previously announced that Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, as well as Director Hwang Dong-hyuk, will receive Creator Tributes at the Second Annual Gotham Television Awards.
